Update on ACIP Votes and Next Steps for Implementation

Update on ACIP Votes and Next Steps for Implementation

As you may be aware, the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) met last week to vote on several vaccine recommendations. We want to ensure all providers have clear guidance on what these votes mean for VFC program operations.

Although ACIP votes on recommendations, they are not considered final until they are formally approved by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). After CDC approval, CDC then issues implementation guidance for immunization programs and providers.

Until CDC provides this official guidance, all VFC providers should continue using VFC vaccines exactly as they have been under current recommendations. No changes to ordering, administration, or eligibility should be made at this time.

Once CDC issues instructions on how to operationalize any new or revised recommendations, the Philadelphia Immunization Program will share detailed guidance and timelines to support a smooth transition.

In the meantime, we would also like to encourage VFC providers to enroll in PA CARES. Download and submit the enrollment form and view this message with detailed instructions for completion and submission. We appreciate your continued partnership in ensuring equitable access to immunizations and will keep you informed as updates become available. For any questions related to PA CARES or the ACIP votes, please email vaccines@phila.gov.
