10 Feb 2026 Action Required: Secure File Transport Portal (SFTP)
Set Up Multi-Factor Authentication
The secure file transport portal (SFTP), is a secure web-based application that acts as a conduit for secure communications and exchange of data between providers and the Philadelphia Department of Public Health (PDPH).
We are writing to inform you of an upcoming security enhancement to our Secure File Transfer Protocol (SFTP) environment.
What’s Changing
In the near future, access to our SFTP system will require multi-factor authentication (MFA). This additional layer of security is being implemented to further protect sensitive data and align with industry best practices.
What You’ll Need
To access the SFTP after MFA is enabled, users will need:
- A smartphone, and
- One of the following authenticator applications installed:
- Microsoft Authenticator, or
- Google Authenticator
- These applications are free and available for both iOS and Android devices.
Automation Accounts
Please note that accounts used solely for automated data submissions (non-interactive/service accounts) will be excluded from MFA requirements and will not be impacted by this change.
We will provide additional details, including the activation date and step-by-step instructions, closer to the rollout.
