The Immunization Champion Award, hosted by the Association of Immunization Managers (AIM) and funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), recognizes individuals doing an exemplary job or going above and beyond to promote or foster immunizations in their communities for children and adults.

The award winners were nominated and selected from a pool of health professionals, community advocates, and other immunization leaders for significantly contributing to public health in their community.

Please join us in congratulating Sharifah Garvin on being named the 2026 Immunization Champion Award winner for Philadelphia! Sharifah Garvin, BSN, is a clinical nurse at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.

Sharifah Garvin’s Impact

For 20 years, Sharifah has gone above and beyond to improve immunization rates and protect vulnerable youth living with HIV. She personally reviews patient records to identify missed or overdue vaccines and plays a critical role in ensuring that youth living with HIV (and those at risk for HIV, receiving prevention services) are appropriately vaccinated and re-vaccinated against hepatitis B when indicated.

Sharifah’s leadership extends beyond direct patient care. She oversees vaccine ordering and management, leads annual staff influenza vaccination efforts, and trains medical assistants in proper vaccine administration, storage, and documentation. She has also been a trusted resource for patients, families, and staff during public health emergencies, including COVID-19 and mpox.

Sharifah’s commitment to immunization is deeply rooted in Philadelphia. Having grown up in the city, she has dedicated her career to caring for and advocating for Philadelphia’s vulnerable communities. Through her compassion, diligence, and leadership, she has made a lasting impact on countless young people and exemplifies excellence in immunization advocacy.
