Self- or Caregiver-Administered FluMist Availability, Ordering, & Administration

Self- or Caregiver-Administered FluMist Availability, Ordering, & Administration

Can I order self- or caregiver-administered FluMist for patients in the upcoming influenza season?

No, providers can not order self- or caregiver-administered FluMist for patients. Patients and/or caregivers must initiate the order themselves.

FluMist can be ordered through an online pharmacy service, Asembia Specialty Pharmacy Network (ASPN). ASPN will facilitate patient vaccine requests, eligibility screening, dispensing, delivery, and follow-up for eligible patients. ASPN has contracted with STChealth as the reporting service provider.
Self- and caregiver-administered FluMist will not be available to order through the Vaccines for Children (VFC) program for the 2025-2026 influenza season.

How does self- or caregiver-administered FluMist get reported in a patient’s medical record?

ASPN will verify administration of the FluMist vaccine and STChealth will then facilitate the immunization reporting for data submission to the appropriate Immunization Information System (IIS). The shipping address will determine which jurisdiction’s IIS receives the data submission.

Verified administration of FluMist will appear in patients’ IIS records. Medical providers do not need to add these doses as historical doses or submit them to the IIS. If a patient states that they have self- or caregiver-administered FluMist, but it is not appearing in their IIS record, they should contact ASPN to ensure that their administration has been verified and documented appropriately.

If patients are interested in self- or caregiver-administered FluMist, they can find more information on starting that process at:
