The American Cancer Society and American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tandfonline.com\/doi\/full\/10.1080\/21645515.2022.2146434\">recommend vaccination at age 9<\/a><a>.<\/a>\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Early vaccination at age 9-10 years has several benefits, including more robust immune response and increased likelihood of completing the series.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">March 4 is International HPV Awareness Day!<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>To help increase HPV vaccination rates back to pre-pandemic levels:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Recommend HPV vaccine at every visit for 9-26-year-olds who have not begun or completed their series. Data shows that your recommendation may improve vaccination rates by 5 times.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>For adults aged 26 years through 45 years, engage in shared decision making to help determine the benefits of vaccination.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Vaccination recommendations should be made in all healthcare settings, including acute, non-acute, GYN, dental, and pharmacy locations.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Steps to Recommend HPV Vaccine to Hesitant Parents<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Use a Presumptive Announcement Approach<\/strong>:&nbsp;<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Your child is __ years old.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Today, they are eligible to receive Tdap, HPV, and MCV vaccine.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>We will make sure they get all these shots to keep them safe and healthy.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><em>If parent hesitates:<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Connect and Counsel:<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>What\u2019s your main concern?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Counsel using a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hpviq.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/AAT-Handout-HPVIQ-2020.pdf\">research-tested method<\/a> (ex.&#8221;Over 30,000 Americans get cancer from HPV every year.
