COVID-19 vaccine has been added to the routine pediatric immunization schedule for ages 6 months and up, among other important additions. There have been several recent changes to vaccine products for pediatric patients as well. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong>ACIP Immunization Schedule Changes<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The changes in the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices\u2019 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/vaccines\/schedules\/hcp\/imz\/child-adolescent.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">pediatric immunizations schedule<\/a>&nbsp; from 2022 to 2023 are:&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>COVID-19 row: COVID-19 vaccination now recommended from age 6 months\u201318 years.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Pneumococcal conjugate row: PCV15 has been added. It is interchangeable with PCV13.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>IPV row: A \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/vaccines\/schedules\/hcp\/imz\/child-adolescent.html#note-polio\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">See Notes<\/a>\u201d section has been added to the column for people aged 17\u201318 years.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The changes in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/vaccines\/schedules\/hcp\/imz\/catchup.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">catch-up immunization schedule<\/a> for 2023 are:&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Pneumococcal conjugate row: Language has been revised. The text now reads \u201cThis dose is only necessary for children aged 12\u201359 months regardless of risk, or aged 60\u201371 months with any risk, who received 3 doses before age 12 months.\u201d&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The changes in the immunization by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/vaccines\/schedules\/hcp\/imz\/child-indications.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">medical indication schedule<\/a> for 2023 are:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>COVID-19 row: A new row was added to summarize COVID-19 vaccination recommendations by medical conditions or other indications.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>View the full MMWR <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/mmwr\/volumes\/72\/wr\/mm7206a1.htm?s_cid=mm7206a1_e&amp;ACSTrackingID=USCDC_921-DM99237&amp;ACSTrackingLabel=This%20Week%20in%20MMWR%20-%20Vol.%2072%2C%20February%2010%2C%202023&amp;deliveryName=USCDC_921-DM99237\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong>Product Changes<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The changes in routine pediatric vaccine products from 2020-2021 to 2022-2023 are:&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>MMR: Priorix added.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Meningococcal conjugate (MCV4): Menactra discontinued, and MenQuadfi added.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Pneumococcal conjugate (PCV15): Vaxneuvance added.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.immunize.org\/catg.d\/p4072.pdf\">Flu (IIV4)<\/a>:&nbsp;&nbsp;\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Flucelvax (multi-dose vial): now available at 6 mo+ instead of 2 yrs+.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Flucelvax (single dose syringe): now available at 6 mo+ instead of 2 yrs+.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Fluzone (multi-dose vial): now available at 6 mo+ instead of 3 yrs+.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Afluria (pre-filled syringe): 0.25 mL&nbsp;pre-filled syringe for 6 &#8211; 36 months&nbsp;no longer available. 0.5 mL pre-filled syringe&nbsp;available at 3 yrs+.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Afluria (multi-dose vial): available at 6 months &#8211; 3 yrs for 0.25 mL dose and at 3 yrs+ for 0.5mL dose.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The American Academy of Pediatrics offers <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aap.org\/en\/patient-care\/immunizations\/implementing-immunization-administration-in-your-practice\/reminder-and-recall-strategies\/#:~:text=Pediatricians%20can%20use%20immunization%20reminder,and%20ensure%20optimal%20vaccination%20rates.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">customizable reminder and recall resources<\/a> for your practice to help ensure children are caught up on routine vaccinations.\u00a0<br>\u00a0<br>If you are not already a Vaccines for Children (VFC) provider, enroll your practice in the VFC program using <a href=\"\/index.php\/portfolio_page\/vfc-vfaar-enrollment-job-aid\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">this guide<\/a>. \u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>What\u2019s New With Pediatric Vaccines?
