{"id":10994,"date":"2022-03-01T11:44:51","date_gmt":"2022-03-01T16:44:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vaccines.phila.gov\/?post_type=lsvr_notice&#038;p=7070"},"modified":"2024-09-11T15:53:44","modified_gmt":"2024-09-11T19:53:44","slug":"recommend-hpv-vaccine-at-every-visit","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vaccines.phila.gov\/index.php\/recommend-hpv-vaccine-at-every-visit\/","title":{"rendered":"Recommend HPV Vaccine at Every Visit!"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"has-large-font-size\"><strong>Recommend HPV Vaccine at Every Visit!<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><span style=\"color:#0f4d90\" class=\"has-inline-color\">During the first year of the COVID-19 pandemic, there was a decrease in HPV doses administered in the United States.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here in Philadelphia, there was a&nbsp;<strong>29% decrease in the total number of HPV doses administered<\/strong>&nbsp;in 2020 compared to 2019.&nbsp;This decrease&nbsp;<strong>affected every eligible age group<\/strong>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>9-13 year olds: HPV doses administered decreased by&nbsp;<strong>17.5%<\/strong>&nbsp;from 2019 to 2020.<\/li><li>13-17 year olds:&nbsp;HPV doses administered decreased by&nbsp;<strong>41.7%&nbsp;<\/strong>from 2019 to 2020.<\/li><li>18-26 year olds:&nbsp;HPV doses administered decreased by&nbsp;<strong>53.7%&nbsp;<\/strong>from 2019 to 2020.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" style=\"font-size:22px\"><span style=\"color:#0f4d90\" class=\"has-inline-color\"><strong>March 4 is International HPV Awareness Day!<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>To help bring HPV vaccination rates back to pre-pandemic levels,&nbsp;<strong>recommend HPV vaccine at every visit for 9-26 year olds&nbsp;<\/strong>who have not begun or completed their series.&nbsp;<br><br><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/zoom.us\/webinar\/register\/WN_nx3Sd2BnQL2_WjjJZ1ik1g\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Register for this CME webinar<\/strong><\/a><strong> on March 2 from 1-2pm EST! <\/strong>Dr. Danielle Casher (Attending Physician, Children&#8217;s Hospital of Philadelphia) will join cancer survivor Megan Lesar to discuss improving HPV vaccine rates in Pennsylvania. <br><br>On March 4,&nbsp;<strong>watch and share&nbsp;<\/strong><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.immunizationmanagers.org\/resources\/international-hpv-awareness-day-toolkit\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>this video<\/strong><\/a> from the Association of Immunization Managers (AIM) to promote timely, complete HPV vaccination.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:22px\"><strong>Steps to Recommend HPV Vaccine to Hesitant Parents<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" style=\"font-size:17px\"><span style=\"color:#0f4d90\" class=\"has-inline-color\"><strong>Announce<\/strong>:&nbsp;<\/span><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Your child is __ years old.<\/li><li>Today, they are eligible to receive Tdap, HPV, and MCV vaccine.<\/li><li>We will make sure they get all these shots to keep them safe and healthy.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:17px\"><em>If parent hesitates:<\/em><br><br><strong>Connect and Counsel:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>What\u2019s your main concern?<\/li><li>Counsel using a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.hpviq.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/AAT-Handout-HPVIQ-2020.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">research-tested method<\/a>&nbsp;(ex.&#8221;Over 30,000 Americans get cancer from HPV every year.
